🌿 Planting Real Change: How My Tree Legacy Plans to Support Other Landowners to Regenerate Aotearoa

Across Aotearoa, countless private landowners are quietly doing the hard mahi — restoring native bush, protecting waterways, and regenerating the land for future generations. Yet despite the many “green” initiatives being promoted by local and national agencies, genuine support for those on the ground can be hard to find.

The reality we have discovered is, many landowners who are trying to do the right thing are left navigating complex funding criteria, long wait times, or limited access to practical help. While government programmes look great on paper, too often they miss the mark when it comes to real-world implementation.

We’ve seen this first-hand here at Khemeia Valley, where our journey toward large-scale regeneration has shown just how challenging it can be to find clear, accessible pathways for support. Rather than becoming disheartened, we decided to take action — and that’s how My Tree Legacy was born.

🌱 Growing Solutions from the Ground Up

My Tree Legacy began as a way to directly fund and accelerate native regeneration — starting with our own whenua, with plans to grow beyond it and support other landowners who are actively restoring their land. We’re creating a transparent, community-led alternative to traditional funding and offset models.

Every tree planted through My Tree Legacy contributes to real ecosystem restoration — nurturing biodiversity, improving soil and water health, and capturing carbon naturally. Just as importantly, it helps empower our supporters and future partner landowners to continue their regeneration journeys with the assistance they deserve.

🌿 Supporting Landowners Across Aotearoa

Our vision goes beyond Khemeia Valley. We’re building a framework that will enable landowners throughout Aotearoa to access community-backed restoration, shared learning, and tangible support that truly reaches the land.

We believe regeneration should be collaborative. It’s not about waiting for policy to catch up; it’s about everyday people — landowners, families, and communities — taking action now, together.
